Why do sows bite piglets?
1. Long-term single feed and insufficient feed lead to malnutrition and hunger in sows. When the sow lacks minerals, vitamins, protein and other nutrients, coupled with hunger, it can cause the sow to eat the piglets by mistake, this phenomenon mostly occurs in farrowing sows or thin old sows. Therefore, the dietary composition of sows should be diversified to meet the nutritional needs of sows for vitamins, proteins, and minerals.
2. During the process of farrowing, sows are highly stressed, have rapid breathing rate, and have serious loss of fetal water, which makes sows want to drink water and have no water to drink, and their temperament becomes irritable, and the phenomenon of biting piglets occurs. Let the sows drink enough water before farrowing. If the farrowing time is long, let the sows drink an appropriate amount of water in the middle.
