Swine fever spreads! Parma ham is also affected
The swine fever alarm in Italy continues to sound. More than 60,000 pigs have been slaughtered across Italy, and related industries have suffered serious losses. The world-renowned Parma ham is also affected.

Initalia reported that recently, many regions in Italy, including Lombardy, Calabria, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Abruzzo and Sardinia, have been affected by the swine fever epidemic.

The Italian Coldiretti Agricultural Association emphasized that swine fever will not be transmitted to humans and will not pose a food safety problem, but it can pose a serious threat to the pork industry.

Currently, more than 60,000 pigs have been slaughtered across Italy due to the epidemic, 45 farms have been closed, and nearly 26,000 companies are at risk. And it may have a negative impact on products protected by the name of origin, including the world-renowned Parma ham.

Ettore Prandini, president of the Coldiretti Agricultural Association, called on the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Health to provide financial support to the pork industry to cope with the swine fever epidemic. "The spread of African swine fever has reached alarming levels, threatening not only animal health but also the entire pork industry in our country, which is vital to the national economy and the preservation of a quality product," Prandini said. He said the government could ensure compensation for the industry that suffered losses, including losses caused by forced slaughter of livestock and forced closures, through a national fund.
