Recently, a Vietnamese government document obtained by Reuters showed that African swine fever is spreading in Vietnam, which may affect the country's food supply and put upward pressure on inflation.
The document, dated July 14, 2024, said: "The risk of widespread spread of this disease is very high, which may affect food supply, consumer prices and the environment."
The Vietnamese government document dated July 14 said that Vietnam has culled 42,400 infected pigs so far this year, nearly five times more than the same period last year; 660 cases of African swine fever have been found nationwide, compared with 208 in the same period last year.
The government ordered provinces to take measures to curb the spread of the epidemic, including prioritizing funds for vaccinating pigs.
Vietnam approved two domestic vaccines for commercial use in July last year, the world's first commercial vaccines against the deadly disease. In December, the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) warned that more testing of African swine fever vaccines was needed.
