To curb the spread of African swine fever, more than 34,000 pigs in northern Italy were culled
Lombardy is Italy's main pig-producing region. At the end of August this year, confirmed cases of African swine fever appeared in three small pig farms in the Pavia Province of Lombardy, and a suspected case appeared in another larger pig farm. This outbreak seems to indicate that the epidemic has spread since the first confirmed case of African swine fever was discovered in Italy in 2022.
