EU pork consumption expected to fall again in 2023
Affected by African swine fever and the low number of fertile sows, EU pork production will decline further in 2023.
In 2022, the pork production of major EU member states will drop by an average of 5.6%, among which the production of important pork producing countries such as Germany, Poland, etc. will all drop sharply. According to the animal husbandry survey in December 2022, the number of fertile sows in the EU will drop by 500,000 heads in 2022 (a decrease of 4.6%), and the current number of fattening pigs is at a low level.
