Danish pig herds and farms both down as feed prices rise
In 2022, the number of live pigs in Denmark will decrease by 6% year-on-year, and the number of farms will decrease by 7% year-on-year. As a result, the average size of pig herds will barely change between 2021 and 2022 amid growing farm sizes.
The main reason for the decline in the number of live pigs and farms is the poor economic conditions of the farmers. While hog prices in 2022 are up 9% from the previous year, feed prices are up 32%. Rising feed prices have led to a reduction in the number of pigs in production.
