The fourth case this year! Classical swine fever detected in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan
Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries issued a statement on the 5th stating that an outbreak of African swine fever has been detected at a pig farm in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, and that nearly 3,000 pigs at the farm will be culled. This marks the fourth confirmed outbreak of African swine fever in Japan so far this year.

According to the bulletin, the affected farm is located in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture. On the 4th, relevant authorities in Shizuoka Prefecture received a report of abnormal behavior among the pigs at the farm and immediately conducted on-site inspections and testing. Test results confirmed that the pigs at the farm were infected with classical swine fever. The bulletin stated that, in accordance with guidelines for the prevention and control of livestock infectious diseases, all pigs at the farm will be culled, incinerated, and deeply buried. An epidemiological investigation team has been dispatched to determine the route of infection and other relevant details, while also guiding the farm in implementing hygiene measures such as disinfection and strict prevention of wild animal intrusion.

Classical swine fever is an acute, contagious disease of pigs transmitted through contact, but it is not transmissible to humans.
