China Becomes Russia's Second-Largest Pork Importer in 2026
The Russian Center for the Development of Agricultural Exports told Sputnik that China ranks among the top three importers of Russian pork, coming in second.


According to statistics from the Russian Center for the Development of Agricultural Exports, more than 6,000 tons of pork were shipped from Russia to China in January and February 2026.
 
China ranks second, trailing only Vietnam, which imported over 7,000 tons and holds the top spot. Hong Kong’s imports are tracked separately, ranking fourth with 1,000 tons.
 
The Philippines ranks third with over 2,700 tons of imports, while Mongolia ranks fifth with over 1,000 tons.

In September 2023, China lifted the restrictions on Russian pork imports that had been in place since 2008 due to African swine fever. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in 2025, the total value of pork imports from Russia reached $86.5 million, a year-on-year increase of 62% ($53.3 million). That year, Russia became the tenth-largest exporter of pork to China. In 2025, China imported pork products from a total of 17 countries. Last year, the main suppliers of pork to China were Spain ($596.5 million) and Brazil ($369.7 million).
 
On February 12, Ilyushin, Director of the Center for the Development of Agricultural Exports under the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, told Sputnik that Russia’s food exports to China in 2025 increased by 20% year-on-year. On January 14, the Center for the Development of Agricultural Exports under the Russian Ministry of Agriculture told Sputnik that in the first eleven months of 2025, the value of Russian agricultural exports to China increased by 14%. China remains the largest importer of Russian agricultural products, with the value of Russian agricultural exports to China exceeding $6.7 billion.
