According to CCTV News, South Korea's African Swine Fever Central Incident Response Headquarters announced on the 25th that an outbreak of African Swine Fever has occurred at a pig farm in Dangjin City, South Chungcheong Province. Starting that day, the Central Incident Response Headquarters elevated the African Swine Fever crisis alert level nationwide to “Severe.”
The affected farm housed 463 pigs. Two pigs died between the 17th and 18th of this month, followed by four more deaths between the 23rd and 24th. After testing the deceased pigs and 14 others from the farm, the South Chungcheong Provincial Health and Inspection Institute confirmed all samples tested positive for the African swine fever virus. Quarantine authorities subsequently dispatched disease control teams to disinfect 28 pig farms within a 10-kilometer radius of the affected facility and implemented movement restrictions.
This outbreak marks South Korea's second occurrence of African Swine Fever since the September incident in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, and the sixth such outbreak this year.
