Peru's Ministry of Agriculture's new goal: per capita pork consumption to reach 20 kilogra
As part of the government's economic recovery policy, the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (Midagri) of Peru is working hard to promote pork consumption growth, with the goal of nearly doubling the national per capita pork consumption to 20 kilograms per person per year by 2030.

El Peruano reported on the 21st that according to data released by the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, Peru currently has 3.4 million pigs on hand, with an annual pork production of 200,450 tons, while the annual per capita pork consumption is only 11 kilograms.

Against this background, the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation is committed to strengthening the importance of the national pig farming industry, supporting the development of small farmers, and promoting Peruvian specialties represented by fried pork (chicharrón).

It is reported that pork, as the core ingredient of many representative dishes in Peru, has spawned many traditional delicacies such as fried pork with corn kernels (chicharrón con mote), fried pork burgers (pan con chicharrón), Carapulcra (a stew made with dried potatoes, pork, peanuts and other ingredients), and roast suckling pig (lechón horneado).
