According to statistics from the Selangor State Veterinary Department in Malaysia, as of the 25th, 56 of the 114 pig farms inspected in Selangor were infected with African swine fever, and it is estimated that more than 76,000 pigs were infected.
The veterinary department pointed out that the infected pig farms were close to each other, which led to the rapid spread of the epidemic.
According to official plans, except for pigs that died naturally after infection, the rest of the pigs will be euthanized by carbon dioxide and buried. All infected pigs will be disposed of within March. As of the 25th, nearly 2,000 pigs have been disposed of.
The head of the veterinary department said that government departments will strengthen supervision to prevent sick pork from entering the market; and will take legal measures against pig farm owners who refuse to destroy infected pigs.
